Andy Erickson made Screaming Eagle for several vintages after Heidi Barrett, including 100-point years, and now consults for Dalla Valle, Mayacamas and a select group of estates. With his wife, viticulturist Annie Favia, he makes Favia from a historic property in Coombsville.

About Andy Erickson

  • Started pre-med, then studied political science and international relations; a summer in Geneva sparked his interest in wine.
  • Worked at a San Francisco advertising agency with Napa winery clients, then spent about 18 months in Mendoza, Argentina, in 1993-94.
  • Worked the 1994 harvest at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, then with John Kongsgaard at Newton, before studying enology at UC Davis.
  • Was assistant winemaker at Harlan Estate under Bob Levy, then winemaker at Staglin and Spottswoode in the early 2000s.
  • Founded Favia with viticulturist Annie Favia (commercial releases from 2002/2003), based at the old Carboni winery in Coombsville; the Huneeus family became partners in 2022, adding an 86-acre Oakville property.
  • Became Screaming Eagle's winemaker in 2006 after the winery's sale, succeeding Heidi Barrett, and left after five vintages at the end of 2010; his 2007 earned 100 points from Robert Parker.
  • Has been consulting winemaker at Dalla Valle since 2007, where Maya has earned multiple perfect scores.
  • Has consulted at Mayacamas since the Schottenstein family bought it in 2013, working with winemaker Braiden Albrecht.
  • Joined Alpha Omega as consulting winemaker in January 2021.
