St. Helena · Napa Valley
A family estate on the western edge of St. Helena, organically farmed since 1985, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Spottswoode sits at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains on the western edge of St. Helena. The estate was established in 1882 and took the name Spottswoode in 1910. Mary and Jack Novak bought it in 1972, and after Jack's death Mary founded the winery, releasing the first Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, a century after the estate began.
The vineyard has been farmed organically since 1985 and was certified in 1992, making it one of Napa Valley's first organic vineyards; it is now biodynamic and regenerative organic as well. Mary's daughter Beth Novak leads the winery today, and the estate's Cabernet has long been counted among the valley's finest.
The visit is small and private: a walk through the vineyard and historic buildings from the 1880s, including the Victorian farmhouse that serves as the tasting room, followed by the estate Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a quiet, personal visit for serious wine lovers.
$150 for the estate tour and tasting, about 90 minutes. $200 for the library and barrel tasting. Fees are waived with a wine purchase of equal value.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
