Mount Veeder · Napa Valley
A mountaintop estate built around an 1889 stone winery high on Mount Veeder, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

John Henry Fisher, a German immigrant, built the winery in 1889 from stones gathered on the property and called it Fisher & Sons. Jack and Mary Taylor bought it in 1941, renamed it Mayacamas Vineyards and planted its first Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bob and Elinor Travers took over in 1968, and the Schottenstein family has owned the estate since 2013.
The 475-acre property sits high in the Mount Veeder AVA, with about 50 acres of vines planted from about 1,800 to 2,200 feet. Bob Travers made the wines in a traditional style for 45 vintages, and his 1971 Cabernet Sauvignon was chosen for the 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting. Since 2013 the vineyards have been farmed organically, and the original stone winery is still in use.
Visits to the estate are privately guided and by reservation, with a walk through the historic winery, views from the mountaintop and a tasting of current wines, or library vintages on the longer Reserve visit. The drive up Mount Veeder is long and winding, so it pairs well with a chauffeur. Mayacamas also has a tasting room in downtown Napa for a shorter, simpler visit.
$135 for the Classic estate tour and tasting, about 60 minutes. $165 for the Reserve tour and tasting with current and library wines, about 90 minutes. $165 for the Kosher tour and tasting, about 90 minutes. The downtown Napa tasting room offers tastings from $40.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
