Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle came to Napa Valley in the early 1980s and founded Dalla Valle Vineyards in 1986 on 20 acres in the eastern hills of Oakville. In 1987 they planted a five-acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon and named it for their newborn daughter, Maya. Today Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle run the estate together, mother and daughter, and Maya is the winemaker.
The vines grow in volcanic, iron-rich soils on the hillside, and the winery calls Maya's Vineyard "one of the most celebrated winegrowing sites in America." Three wines come from the estate: Maya, the Dalla Valle Estate Cabernet and Collina. Edgar Alfaro manages the vineyard, and the family's approach is summed up in a line on their site: "One thousand days to learn: ten thousand days to refine."
The wines go to mailing list members, and anyone can ask to join the list on the winery's website. Visits are not possible: the winery says that because of the conditions of its Napa County use permit, it "cannot accommodate any visit or tasting requests." The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do open their doors.
Dalla Valle does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
