The Cottages of Napa Valley is a group of nine private cottages on Darms Lane, about two miles from Yountville, on land that was once the Darms family orchard. The first cottage was built in the early 1900s by Italian farm workers, and Mike Smith restored the property and reopened it in May 2005.
Each cottage has its own porch, private fire pit, gas fireplace and kitchenette, and some have massage tubs. A Bouchon Bakery pastry basket is delivered each morning, with welcome wine and snacks. There are bikes to borrow, a garden and a game room, but no lobby or front desk, and no pets.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Trefethen Family Vineyards, Robert Biale Vineyards and Chandon are all within about 10 minutes, and Yountville is about 10 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, at the north end of the valley.
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 39 miles, 1 hour 5 minutes. The closest airport to The Cottages of Napa Valley, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 57 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 65 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 70 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.
Flying private? We also meet guests at the FBOs at STS and Napa County Airport (APC). See our Sonoma County Airport car service page for more on flying into STS.
