Nickel & Nickel

About the Winery

The partners behind Far Niente founded Nickel & Nickel in 1997 to make 100% varietal wines, each from a single vineyard. In 1999 they bought the Sullenger farm on Highway 29 in Oakville, with its 1884 Victorian farmhouse, and opened it to visitors in 2003.

The farmstead feels like a step back in time. Alongside the restored house stands the Gleason Barn, built around 1770 in New Hampshire and moved to Oakville piece by piece, where the wines are made and aged.

Nickel & Nickel makes more than 20 single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons as well as single-vineyard Chardonnay, so a tasting is a lesson in how place shapes wine. It is right across the highway from Opus One, which makes an easy pairing.

Tasting Fees

$75 for Uncork & Unwind, four wines in about an hour. $115 for the Farmstead Experience with a tour of the barn and cellar and a cheese plate, about 90 minutes. $150 for Digging Into Cabernet, 1 hour 45 minutes.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
