About the Property

The Setting Inn is a six-room inn in a turn-of-the-century farmhouse, on one acre surrounded by vineyards in the Oak Knoll District. The farmhouse was renovated in 2019, the inn was founded in 2020 by the winemakers behind Setting Wines, and it joined the Four Sisters Inns in 2026.

Bouchon Bakery pastries, fruit and juice are delivered to the room each morning, and a wine hour with small bites runs daily from 5 to 6 p.m. There are wine tastings in the barn, yard games, e-bikes to borrow and heated bathroom floors. Parking is free, and pets are not allowed other than service animals.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Trefethen Family Vineyards, Robert Biale Vineyards and Chandon are all within about 10 minutes, and Yountville is about 10 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, at the north end of the valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 39 miles, 1 hour 5 minutes. The closest airport to The Setting Inn, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 58 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 65 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 71 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 5 minutes away. Sandwiches, salads and cheeses from the historic Oakville Grocery, open since 1881, eaten at the picnic tables out back. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 20 minutes away. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with a seated wine and food pairing, on the Silverado Trail north of Calistoga. Pairings start at $100. Reservation only.

2:10 · Bennett Lane Winery

About 15 minutes away. Cabernet Sauvignon and the Maximus blends, a couple of minutes up Highway 128. Tastings are $35 to $75. By appointment.

4:00 · Back to The Setting Inn

About 40 minutes away. Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

Adds about an hour. The Mondavi and Rothschild partnership, in a landmark winery on Highway 29 in Oakville. The estate tasting is $150, booked and paid ahead; reservations open two months out.
