About the Property
Sttupa Estate is a gated, five-suite hillside inn on the Silverado Trail, in the eastern hills overlooking Yountville. It opened in 2005 as Poetry Inn, designed by Howard Backen, and was renamed Sttupa Estate in 2026 by the family group behind Sullivan Rutherford Estate. Each suite has a king bed, a wood-burning fireplace and a west-facing terrace, and the whole house can also be booked.
A three-course breakfast is included each morning, and private dining can be arranged ahead. There is a spa treatment room, with massages also offered on the private terraces, and a pool and Jacuzzi open April through November. Guests receive a complimentary Founder's Tasting at Sullivan Rutherford Estate. Guests must be 21 or older, and there are no pets.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Cliff Lede Vineyards, Shafer Vineyards and Silverado Vineyards are all within about 5 minutes, and Yountville is about 10 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, at the north end of the valley.
Getting Here From the Airport
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 37 miles, 1 hour 5 minutes. The closest airport to Sttupa Estate, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 63 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 70 miles, 1 hour 35 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 76 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 15 minutes away. A Rutherford family winery founded by Jack and Dolores Cakebread in 1973 and run by their sons today. Tastings run $60 to $125, prepaid. By appointment only.

About 5 minutes away. American grill classics, including rotisserie chicken and ribs, next door to Beaulieu Vineyard in Rutherford. It is busy at lunch, so we plan around the wait. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
