Roy Raymond came to Napa Valley in 1933 to work at Beringer, and he married Martha Jane Beringer, granddaughter of founder Jacob Beringer. In the early 1970s the Raymond family bought 90 acres on Zinfandel Lane, planted vines and brought in the first Raymond harvest in 1974. The family ran the winery for decades. Today it is part of the Boisset Collection, led by proprietor Jean-Charles Boisset.
The estate now covers about 170 acres in the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations, and the tasting room sits on the original vineyard in the Rutherford AVA. The vineyards are certified organic by CCOF and Biodynamic by Demeter. The 1.5-acre Theater of Nature, a demonstration vineyard and garden, shows how that farming works. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the lineup, from the Generations bottling to the District Collection.
A visit here is part tasting, part theater. Under Boisset the winery added the candlelit Crystal Cellar, the velvet-curtained Red Room, the JCB Lounge and a Winemaker for a Day blending room. Guests can taste at the standing bar in the main salon, sit outside in The Grove, or ride through the vines on the Journey of the Senses tour. The self-guided Theater of Nature walk is complimentary.
Complimentary Welcome Flight of three wines in the grove, Thursdays and Sundays by reservation. $50 for Taste of the Valley at the standing bar in the main salon. $60 to $65 for Raymond Tailored Tastings in The Grove or the Crystal Cellar, and $65 for the Barrel Tasting Experience. $95 for the Red Room Tasting, Terroir Tasting Among the Vines or the seasonal Gelato in the Grove. $100 for the JCB Lounge or the Five Acts of Biodynamics scavenger hunt and tasting. $175 for the Journey of the Senses tour or Winemaker for a Day.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
