About the Property
Bear Flag Inn is a country bed and breakfast on three and a half secluded acres on Foothill Boulevard, a few minutes' drive from downtown Calistoga. The land was the John Cyrus Ranch in the 1860s, and the house was rebuilt in 1932 by his grandson, Milton Sherwood. There are four guest rooms and a cottage.
Breakfast includes farm-fresh eggs from the property and a homemade hot entree, and local wines and hors d'oeuvres are served in the parlor each afternoon. There is a pool and hot tub, and the rooms have antiques and clawfoot tubs.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Envy Wines, Tamber Bey Vineyards and Chateau Montelena are all within about 5 minutes, and St. Helena is about 15 minutes south. We are based in Calistoga ourselves, a few minutes away.
Getting Here From the Airport
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 18 miles, 35 minutes. The closest airport to Bear Flag Inn and the easiest arrival: a short drive over the hills from Santa Rosa, with no Bay Area traffic. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 86 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes, and 2 hours or more at busy times. The most flights, with the longest drive, across the Bay Area and up through Napa Valley.
Oakland (OAK): about 78 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO, and a slightly shorter drive.
Sacramento (SMF): about 92 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 5 minutes away. Home of Profile, a Bordeaux-style blend from the family's hillside estate, poured in a historic winery on Main Street in St. Helena. Tastings start at $50. Reservations recommended.

About 10 minutes away. One of the valley's oldest family estates, with Cabernet Sauvignon from its own vineyard on the valley floor between Calistoga and St. Helena. The salon tasting is $90. By appointment.
