About the Winery

Adam Grimm founded the estate in 1883 as Grimm's Vineyard and Wine Vaults, and his brother Jacob joined him in 1889. Chinese laborers dug the caves into the volcanic hillside, and they survived the 1964 fire that destroyed the vineyard.

In 1976 Jerry Seps, a former professor of European history, and his wife Sigrid bought the land and renamed it Storybook Mountain. The family still runs it with their daughter Colleen, her husband Rick Williams and granddaughter Elena. Storybook's Zinfandels have been served at the White House by three presidents.

The certified organic vineyard climbs the steep slopes above Highway 128, and most of the mature vines are not irrigated. The visit is a walk through the vineyard, the caves and a redwood grove, ending with a tasting of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and more.

Tasting Fees

$50 for the Vineyard, Cave and Redwood Grove experience, about 90 minutes, waived with the purchase of two bottles.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
