About the Property

The Sandman is a renovated motor-court hotel on Cleveland Avenue in north Santa Rosa, part of the Ascend Hotel Collection and a sister property of The Flamingo Resort. It is marking 50 years and recently finished a multi-million-dollar renovation. There are 135 rooms, some with kitchenettes.

The heated outdoor pool and hot tub are set in native landscaping, next to the Pool House & Bar. A hot breakfast is included, and pets are welcome for a fee.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Bob Cabral Wines, Paradise Ridge Winery and Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate & Gardens are all within about 15 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 6 miles, 10 minutes. The closest airport to The Sandman, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 70 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 70 miles, 1 hour 35 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 102 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 15 minutes away. Estate Zinfandel, Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc on a 1,850-acre Kenwood estate with caves. A bar tasting or the daily cave tour is $25. Walk-ins welcome; seated tastings recommended by reservation.

Adds about an hour. Jackass Hill Zinfandel and estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a family farming in the Russian River Valley since the 1880s. The Hop Barn Tasting is $25 and the Vineyard Terrace Tasting $50. Reservations recommended.
