German immigrants first planted this hillside on Sonoma Mountain in the late 1800s, and Carmen Taylor replanted three acres to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1968. Patrick Campbell bought the property in 1977 and grew it to 14 acres. A group led by Bettina Sichel bought Laurel Glen in 2011 and brought in organic grower Phil Coturri as viticulturist.
The vineyard faces east on Sonoma Mountain between 850 and 1,100 feet and is planted entirely to the Laurel Glen clone of Cabernet Sauvignon, which Campbell found was genetically distinct and UC Davis certified as its own clone. It has been certified organic by CCOF since 2014, and the vines are now trained Double Guyot for lower yields and more even ripening.
The vineyard is not open for visits; tastings are at the tasting room in the village of Glen Ellen, on Arnold Drive at the foot of the mountain. Flights run from chilled wines to Estate Cabernet across several vintages and library bottles, and 2025 marked the 40th vintage of the Estate Cabernet.
$35 for the Chilled Wine Tasting, $45 for the Classic Tasting and $55 for the Collector Tasting of four Cabernets. $75 for the Library Tasting and $100 to $125 for the Evolution of Cabernet. $25 for the Midweek Escape, Tuesday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fees are waived with a 3-bottle purchase (4 for the Library Tasting).
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
