About the Property

Meadowlark Country House & Resort sits on 20 private acres on Petrified Forest Road, a few minutes outside Calistoga, with eight suites and two separate guesthouses. It is adults-only.

The mineral water pool area is clothing-optional, with a seasonally heated lap pool open around the clock, a hot tub, a Finnish sauna and a massage room, and the Meadow View Deck has cabanas. A full breakfast is included each day, and dogs are welcome for a fee.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Envy Wines, Tamber Bey Vineyards and Chateau Montelena are all within about 10 minutes, and St. Helena is about 20 minutes south. We are based in Calistoga ourselves, a few minutes away.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 17 miles, 35 minutes. The closest airport to Meadowlark and the easiest arrival: a short drive over the hills from Santa Rosa, with no Bay Area traffic. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 87 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes, and 2 hours or more at busy times. The most flights, with the longest drive, across the Bay Area and up through Napa Valley.

Oakland (OAK): about 79 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO, and a slightly shorter drive.

Sacramento (SMF): about 92 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 20 minutes away. Burgers, fish tacos and salads at St. Helena's classic roadside stand, with picnic tables on the lawn. Quick and casual, which leaves more time for wine. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 5 minutes away. Napa Valley's oldest winery, founded in 1861 and run today by the Peter Mondavi Sr. family. The Estate Tasting is $50, and the tour and tasting is $90. By appointment.

About 15 minutes away. The Coach Insignia Cabernet Sauvignon, first made in 1984, at the family's estate on the Silverado Trail. The private hosted estate tasting is $95. By appointment.

About 10 minutes away. Back at about 3:25 p.m., with a little time left in the six hours.

Optional: Sterling Vineyards

Adds about an hour. Ride the aerial gondola to Sterling's hilltop tasting room for views over the top of the valley. The gondola is included with every tasting, from about $55. Reservations recommended.
