About the Winery

Fred and Juelle Fisher founded Fisher Vineyards in 1973 on a mountain ranch on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas, clearing forest over heavy clay and solid rock to plant vines. In 1975 they added a 70-acre estate in Calistoga, on the alluvial fan of Simmons Creek. The second generation now runs the winery, with Whitney Fisher overseeing the vineyards and winemaking and Robert Fisher as general manager.

Fisher farms estates in both Sonoma County and Napa Valley. Its first release, the 1979 Cabernet, blended fruit from both and was labeled "Napa - Sonoma" for that reason. The flagship Coach Insignia Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Calistoga Estate, followed in 1984. The Calistoga vineyards include the Lamb Vineyard and the RCF Vineyard, named for Fred and Juelle's son, Robert Charles Fisher.

Visits in Napa Valley are at the Calistoga Estate, about a mile south of town on the Silverado Trail, where the family opened a modern barn-style winery in 2019. Everything is by appointment and kept small: a hosted estate tasting for up to six guests, or a self-guided tasting in Adirondack chairs among the vines for up to four.

Tasting Fees

$95 for the Self-Guided Adirondack Tasting, about an hour, for up to 4 guests. $95 for the Private Hosted Estate Tasting, 90 minutes, for up to 6 guests. A $20 deposit is charged when you book; one fee is waived with each purchase of three bottles.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 9:45 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley or Solage. We start 15 minutes early because Fisher's first preferred tasting time is 10 a.m.

9:45 · Pickup at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley or Solage

Stay close and the tasting starts right away. Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley, with its own vineyard on the Silverado Trail, is about 5 minutes from Fisher, and Solage, an Auberge resort at the edge of Calistoga, is about 5 minutes away. Pickup is 15 minutes earlier than usual to make Fisher's 10 a.m. tasting. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:00 · Fisher Vineyards

Private Hosted Estate Tasting, 90 minutes ($95). The Self-Guided Adirondack Tasting ($95, about an hour, up to 4 guests) gives you 30 minutes back for the rest of the day.

12:00 · Vincent Arroyo Winery

About 10 minutes away. A family winery in a barn full of oak barrels, whose signature Petite Sirah often sells out before it is bottled. Tastings are $30. By appointment, on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; guests must be 21 or older.

1:10 · Lunch at Solbar

About 7 minutes away. Lunch at Solbar, the restaurant at Solage, served Monday to Saturday from 11:45 a.m. (brunch on Sundays). Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:30 · Tedeschi Family Winery

About 8 minutes away. A small family winery about 5 minutes north of downtown Calistoga, making about 2,000 cases a year, where the staff all work on the wines. The Estate Tasting of at least four wines starts at $35 and runs 60 to 90 minutes; we plan on about an hour. By appointment, with seatings on the half hour until 3 p.m.; same-day appointments are welcome.

3:35 · Back to your hotel

Back by 3:45 p.m., six hours after pickup.

Optional: Picayune Cellars

Adds about an hour. A downtown Calistoga tasting room and boutique owned by French-born winemaker Claire Ducrocq Weinkauf. Walk-ins are welcome as availability allows for the Classic Tasting ($35, about an hour). Open until 6 p.m., so the last tasting is about 5 p.m.

About $160 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. The fourth stop is there if the day allows.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
