About the Property
Hennessey Estate is a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1889 for Dr. Edwin Z. Hennessey, whom the inn describes as Napa County's first physician; Lake Hennessey is named for him. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits on Main Street, three blocks from downtown Napa, with 10 rooms and suites, all with California king beds.
A chef-prepared breakfast is served from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the historic tasting room, under its original pressed-tin ceiling. There is a heated outdoor pool and spa and a traditional Finnish sauna, and the whole estate can be booked for up to 20 overnight guests. Parking is complimentary, and pets are not allowed.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Trefethen Family Vineyards, Darioush and Signorello Estate are all within about 15 minutes, and Yountville is about 20 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, at the north end of the valley.
Getting Here From the Airport
Oakland (OAK): about 51 miles, 1 hour 10 minutes. The closest airport to Hennessey Estate, and often quieter than SFO.
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 45 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes. Often the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 59 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 65 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 25 minutes away. Cabernet Sauvignon aged in American oak, at the modern winery in Oakville. The Silver Oak Tasting is $65, and small groups can walk in at the bar.

About 15 minutes away. Home of the Cabernet Sauvignon that won the red wine side of the 1976 Judgment of Paris. The signature tasting is $95, and the estate experience is $125 with 48 hours' notice.

Adds about an hour. A Silverado Trail estate founded in 1977, rebuilt after the 2017 Atlas Fire and reopened in 2024 with more than 11,000 square feet of caves. The Estate Social Tasting is $50 and the Legacy Tasting in the caves is $125. By reservation.
