About the Property
Auberge du Soleil sits on 33 hillside acres of olive and oak trees on Rutherford Hill, looking out over the valley. It opened in 1981 as a restaurant by French restaurateur Claude Rouas and partner Bob Harmon, and the inn was added five years later. Its 50 rooms, suites and private maisons are part of the Auberge Collection, and it is a Relais & Châteaux member, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel and holds three Michelin Keys.
The Restaurant serves Provençal-inspired cuisine and holds one Michelin star, with The Bar, La Plage by the pool and in-room dining as well. The Spa at Auberge du Soleil has guest-only soaking pools and dual-infrared steam rooms, and the private maisons have terraces with outdoor tubs. It is designed as an adult retreat and is not recommended for children under 21. No pets, except service dogs.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Caymus Vineyards and Beaulieu Vineyard are all within about 15 minutes, and St. Helena is about 15 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, a short drive up the valley.
Getting Here From the Airport
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 32 miles, 1 hour. The closest airport to Auberge du Soleil, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 69 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 77 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 82 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 5 minutes away. American grill classics, including rotisserie chicken and ribs, next door to Beaulieu Vineyard in Rutherford. It is busy at lunch, so we plan around the wait. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 10 minutes away. Rutherford Cabernet, winery-only Reserve wines and the Torcia line, on the Silverado Trail under Zaninovich family ownership since 2000. The Reserve Tasting is $55 and the guided tour with tasting is $75. Plan on a reservation.

About 15 minutes away. A Trinchero family winery in Oakville, tasting in a geodesic dome on its original five acres. Guided tastings start at $40, and the Wine and Potato Chip Pairing is $55. Reservations recommended, and walk-ins are welcome.

Adds about an hour. The Peju family's Rutherford estate since 1983, known for its 50-foot stone tower and a 1906 stained glass window. The Taster's Trio is $40 and the Classic Seated Tasting is $65. Reservations recommended, and walk-ins are welcome.
