Chuck Wagner and his parents, Charlie and Lorna, opened Caymus in 1972, releasing 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. The family's roots in Napa Valley go back to the 1880s, and the winery takes its name from Rancho Caymus, the land grant that once covered this part of the valley.
Caymus Special Selection, made from the best barrels, began with the 1975 vintage. It is the only wine to be named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year twice, for the 1984 and 1990 vintages. The winery remains family-owned and run, with Charlie and Jenny Wagner leading the farming and winemaking.
Caymus is known for dark, ripe, generous Cabernet Sauvignon. The seated tasting is relaxed and unhurried, and includes Special Selection alongside the Napa Valley Cabernet.
$50 for the seated tasting, about 90 minutes, including the Napa Valley Cabernet and Special Selection.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
