Mark Aubert made his name at Peter Michael and as consultant to Colgin, Bryant Family and Sloan before focusing on his own Aubert Wines. His Sonoma Coast and Russian River Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are among the most sought-after in California.

About Mark Aubert

  • Raised near St. Helena; his family moved to Napa Valley in 1969 and his father later planted Cabernet on a hillside property near St. Helena.
  • Graduated from St. Helena High School and earned an enology degree from Fresno State in 1985.
  • Early jobs included enologist at Rutherford Hill and assistant winemaker at Monticello Vineyards.
  • Joined Peter Michael Winery in Knights Valley in 1989 and became its head winemaker by age 28, staying roughly a decade.
  • Consulting winemaker at Colgin Cellars from 1999 until early 2007, when he moved to oversee winemaking at Bryant Family Vineyard.
  • Founded Aubert Wines with his wife Teresa; first vintage 2000, first Pinot Noir in 2002.
  • Stopped outside consulting after 2009 to focus entirely on Aubert Wines.
  • Estate vineyards near Forestville on the Sonoma Coast (Lauren, CIX, Park Avenue and Powder House) and the Sugar Shack Chardonnay vineyard in Rutherford.
  • Bought a former winery in Calistoga in 2010, which became the Aubert winery.
  • His 2018 UV Vineyard Pinot Noir was ranked No. 2 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2020.
