Oak Knoll District · Napa Valley
A family of Napa Valley growers since 1970 and their pyramid-shaped winery north of Napa, with a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
Ken and Gail Laird bought their first Napa Valley land in 1970: 70 acres of neglected prune trees near Calistoga. Robert Mondavi walked the property and agreed to finance planting it. By the late 1990s the family farmed more than 2,000 acres of vineyards and decided to make wine under its own name.
The family built its winery on Red Hen Ranch at the north edge of Napa, inside the Oak Knoll District, a pyramid designed by architect Jon Lail. The family still runs it: son Justin leads Bayview Vineyards, the family's vineyard company, and daughter Rebecca is general manager of the winery.
Laird is one of the more relaxed visits in the valley. Families and well-behaved pets are welcome, and guests may bring their own food to the patios and lawn. Flights of five wines are poured daily, and a guided winery tour with cheese and charcuterie runs three days a week.
$50 for the Veraison Flight of five white and red wines (complimentary with a $100 purchase) and $60 for the Big Red's Flight (complimentary with a $120 purchase). $125 for the Winery Tour and Tasting with cheese and charcuterie, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
