Ann Colgin discovered Napa Valley at the wine auction in 1988 and made her first wine from Herb Lamb Vineyard fruit in 1992, released in 1995. In 1996 she bought a historic vineyard first planted in 1861 and replanted it as Tychson Hill, honoring Josephine Tychson. Ann is founder and chairwoman, her husband Joe Wender is CEO, and since 2017 Colgin has been in partnership with LVMH.
Three vineyards make the wines: Tychson Hill, a "jewel box" first planted in the 19th century; Cariad, on rocky hillsides overlooking the valley; and IX Estate, a 125-acre parcel bought in 1998 and carved into a steep east-facing slope, where winery construction began that year. The house style aims for "perfume, freshness, and minerality." Allison Tauziet is director of winemaking, and in 2005 Robert Parker named Colgin one of the fifty greatest wine estates.
Colgin offers "a limited number of privately arranged visits each season." Requests go through the mailing list: sign up, send a visit request, and the team reviews each one and gets in touch if an opportunity arises. Nothing is guaranteed, and the winery sets the place, format and any fee. We help you make the request and, if Colgin can host, plan the rest of your day around it.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Good to Know
There is no tasting room and no walk-in visit. Requests are reviewed one by one, and Colgin gets in touch only if it can host; it does not publish a fee, days or group size.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Meadowood or Alila Napa Valley.
Meadowood, the resort east of St. Helena at the foot of Howell Mountain, and Alila Napa Valley, a Hyatt resort in downtown St. Helena, are both well placed for the St. Helena estates. Colgin sets the time and place of a visit when it accepts a request, and we move pickup to suit. The day runs about seven hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A private visit, only if Colgin can host on your date. We plan about an hour and a quarter; the time, place, format and any fee are set by the winery.
About 20 minutes away. Winemaker Luc Morlet's family winery in an 1880 stone building north of St. Helena. The private seated tasting with a brief tour is $200, about 90 minutes, waived with six bottles per person. By appointment, Monday to Saturday, with times from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Farmstead, Long Meadow Ranch's farm-to-table restaurant at the south end of St. Helena, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. Jackson Family Wines' Spring Mountain estate, where a host walks you from the foyer to a balcony over the valley to taste four Cabernet Sauvignons, from Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain, side by side. The Mountain Experience is $250, about 90 minutes. By appointment, prepaid on Tock; parties of 2 to 6, 21 and over.
Back by about 4:45 p.m., about six and three-quarter hours after pickup.
About $450 per person in tasting fees for Morlet and Lokoya, paid directly to each winery, plus any fee Colgin sets for the visit.
Morlet hosts Monday to Saturday. Colgin confirms its own days and the place of the visit; if it cannot host on your date, we build the morning around another Pritchard Hill or St. Helena estate.
