About the Property
Potter's Foothill House is a small bed and breakfast on a one-acre property on Foothill Boulevard, just north of Calistoga. Gregg and Lynn, who bought it in 2014 and have rebuilt much of it themselves, run it as a family-owned inn with two rooms and a cottage, so there are only six to eight guests at a time.
Breakfast is served to your room, and each room has its own entrance and patio. Rooms are for two guests, Wi-Fi and parking are free, and pets are not allowed, though certified service dogs are welcome.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Tamber Bey, Envy Wines and Chateau Montelena are all within about 5 minutes. We are based in Calistoga too.
Getting Here From the Airport
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 18 miles, 35 minutes. The closest airport to Potter's Foothill House, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 79 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 87 miles, 2 hours, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 92 miles, 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 5 minutes away. A 14th-century-style Tuscan castle built stone by stone. The seated reserve tasting with a self-guided walk through two levels is $60 and runs about 75 minutes. Reservations required; there are no drive-up visits.

About 5 minutes away. A small estate on Tubbs Lane with a patio facing Old Faithful Geyser. The tasting of current releases is $35. Open Thursday to Monday; closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
