The Inn at Salvestrin is a three-room inn in the historic Victorian home of Dr. Crane at Salvestrin Winery, on the south side of St. Helena. The Salvestrin family has lived on the estate since 1932, and Ed and Susanne Salvestrin first opened the house to guests as Sunny Acres Bed & Breakfast.
Each stay includes a daily continental breakfast and one complimentary winery tasting and tour, and snacks, cheeses and drinks are set out upstairs on an honor system. There is a two-night minimum, and the inn does not take children or pets. The historic house has stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Salvestrin, Louis M. Martini Winery and Heitz Cellar are all within about 5 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, about 15 minutes up the valley.
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 28 miles, 50 minutes. The closest airport to Inn at Salvestrin, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 68 miles, 1 hour 35 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 76 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 82 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.
Flying private? We also meet guests at the FBOs at STS and Napa County Airport (APC). See our Sonoma County Airport car service page for more on flying into STS.
