St. Helena · Napa Valley
A historic Cabernet house founded at the end of Prohibition, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Louis M. Martini founded his winery in St. Helena in 1933, as Prohibition ended, one of only five winemakers to do so at Repeal.
His son, Louis P. Martini, made what the winery calls California's first varietal Merlot and pioneered wind machines to protect vineyards from frost. The family bought the Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma in the 1930s, and its Cabernet is still a highlight.
The 1933 winery was restored in 2019 by the architect Howard Backen, and tastings are seated and relaxed, focused on Napa Valley and vineyard-designate Cabernet Sauvignon.
$55 for the Taste of Martini or the Taste of Monte Rosso Vineyard. $80 for the Crown Collection, with a food pairing for $50 more, and $100 for the 90-minute Tour and Tasting, Friday to Sunday.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
