The Enriquez family comes from Coyoacán, a historic Mexico City neighborhood whose name means place of the coyotes. When they first arrived on Howell Mountain, a pack of coyotes greeted them, so they named their new home after their old one. With backgrounds in microbiology, finance, law and tourism, they describe themselves as city folk turned farmers, learning cover crops, pruning and splitting firewood.
The estate sits above the fog line in the Howell Mountain AVA. The one-acre Apple Orchard block of Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 2013 on a former orchard. The three-acre Cold Springs block, planted in 2021 between Bancroft Ranch, Clif Family's Cold Springs Vineyard and Dana Estates' Hershey Vineyard, gave its first crop in 2024, with fruit sold to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and Darioush. A Cabernet Franc block followed in 2023.
Production is tiny: the 2022 Cabernet filled a little over 400 bottles, labeled and wax-sealed by hand. The first estate wine, the 2021, was released in 2025, and the 2023 is planned for 2027. The wines go to allocation members. There is no tasting room, so Coyoacan does not receive visitors, though the family rents its Howell Mountain Estate house to guests. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.
Coyoacan does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
