About the Winery

Davies Vineyards is the red wine side of the Davies family, who revived Schramsberg on Diamond Mountain in 1965. Jack and Jamie Davies' son Hugh, born the month after they took over, became head winemaker in 2000. The family began replanting the historic Schramsberg slopes, Napa Valley's first hillside vineyards, to Bordeaux varieties in 1994, and the first J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2001, was named for Jack.

The J. Davies Estate vineyards total 41 acres between about 500 and 1,000 feet, the southernmost in the Diamond Mountain District, between Nash and Ritchie creeks. Since 2009 the family has also bottled single-vineyard Pinot Noir from North Coast growers such as Hyde and Ferrington, and since 2012 Napa Cabernet from sites such as Winfield and Red Cap. The first crush at the St. Helena winery was in 2012.

The tasting room opened in 2017 beside the winery on Grayson Avenue in the St. Helena AVA, a short drive from Main Street. Every tasting is seated and by appointment, and many pour Schramsberg sparkling wine with the Davies reds. Guests love the Wine & Caviar Brunch, which pairs sparkling wine with caviar, a frittata, beef tenderloin and crème brûlée, and the library tasting shows how J. Davies Cabernet ages.

Tasting Fees

$70 to $95 for seated tastings of current releases (the Classic Tasting of Schramsberg sparkling and Davies reds, the Red Wine Tasting, single-vineyard flights or a Custom Tasting), about 60 to 75 minutes. $100 for the 2018 Pinot Noir Library Tasting and $140 for the J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon Library Tasting (minimum 2). $180 for the Wine & Caviar Brunch Tasting.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
