MaryAnn and Larry Tsai started Moone-Tsai in 2003. Fresh out of Harvard Business School, MaryAnn went to work in the Napa Valley wine business and helped create Beringer's Bancroft Ranch Merlots on Howell Mountain, one of several wines she worked on that were rated the number one wine in the world. Today the couple live in the Las Posadas district of Howell Mountain, where the label's story began.
The wines come from some of the valley's most sought-after blocks: Howell Mountain, To Kalon in Oakville, Pritchard Hill, Coombsville and St. Helena. The winemaker is Philippe Melka, who trained in Bordeaux at Haut-Brion and Petrus. The landmark wine is the Howell Mountain Hillside Blend, alongside the Cor Leonis and Black List Cabernets and a Chardonnay. Most of the wine goes to the mailing list and to restaurant wine lists.
Guests taste at the Brasswood estate on Highway 29 just north of St. Helena, where the winery and tasting room are based. It is a relaxed, guided visit for 2 to 8 people, and the three-course wine-paired lunch is a good choice for a long, unhurried stop. Guests like to linger afterward at Brasswood's bakery, gallery and shops before the next drive.
$125 for the guided Wine Tasting of current releases, about an hour. $150 for the Wine Tasting with Cheese Pairing, about an hour. $200 for the Wine-Paired Lunch, three courses with a flight of wines, about 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
