John Boich founded Boich Family Cellar in 2012 to make Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate called it an under-the-radar producer turning out superb wines from big-name vineyards. Jeff Ames, whom the winery describes as a 100-point winemaker, makes the wines, and production is about 1,800 cases a vintage from five single-vineyard sites, released through an allocation list.
The vineyard list reads like Napa history: Beckstoffer To Kalon, first planted in 1868; Beckstoffer Georges III, once the source of Beaulieu's Georges de Latour Private Reserve; and Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper in Oakville. Closer to home is the Wall Road Vineyard on Mount Veeder, three acres planted in 1999 above the marine layer, and there is a Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley.
There is no public tasting room. Boich welcomes a limited number of guests by prior arrangement: a private tasting with John Boich, a relaxed visit with the team, a tasting with light bites in the Hunnicutt cave lounge on the Silverado Trail in St. Helena, or a food and wine pairing at The Charter Oak or Bottega. We send the request and arrange it on your behalf.
$150 per guest for a hosted visit with the team or the tasting with light bites in the Hunnicutt cave lounge. $250 per guest for a private tasting with proprietor John Boich. $295 per guest for the restaurant food and wine pairing at The Charter Oak or Bottega (4-guest minimum).
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

The Hunnicutt cave lounge takes up to 10 guests, and the restaurant pairing needs at least 4. One fee is waived with a purchase of three bottles per guest (for the tasting with John Boich, plus a new allocation membership). The wines are sold through the allocation list.
Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Meadowood or Alila Napa Valley.
This day is built around the cave lounge tasting at Hunnicutt on the Silverado Trail. Meadowood, at the foot of Howell Mountain, is about 6 minutes away, and Alila Napa Valley, on Main Street in St. Helena, about 8 minutes. Boich confirms the time when the visit is arranged. Extra time can be added by the hour.
The Boich tasting in the Hunnicutt cave lounge ($150), single-vineyard Beckstoffer Cabernets with light bites. The winery does not publish a duration; we plan about 90 minutes.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Market, an American restaurant in a historic brick and stone building on Main Street in St. Helena, open for lunch Monday to Saturday from noon. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 8 minutes away. A small St. Helena winery on Rossi Road with optional barrel tastings. The Current Release Tasting pours at least five wines over 90 minutes for $75. By appointment, Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
About 8 minutes away. Long Meadow Ranch's wines poured at the Farmstead Wine Bar beside the ranch's farm-to-table restaurant. The Wine Tasting is $60 for 45 to 60 minutes; walk-ins welcome, reservations encouraged. Open Thursday to Monday.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $285 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Market serves lunch Monday to Saturday, MTGA hosts Wednesday to Sunday and the Farmstead Wine Bar is open Thursday to Monday, so this day works Thursday to Saturday. Boich sets the time of each visit when the request is confirmed, and we adjust the day around it.
