About the Property

The Wydown Hotel is a 12-room, adults-only boutique hotel on Main Street in downtown St. Helena, overlooking Lyman Park. It opened in 2011 and is locally owned. Every room has a king bed, and the corner rooms look out to the mountains and downtown.

A continental breakfast is served each morning in the art-filled Tea Room, with afternoon tea and cookies from 3 to 5 p.m. Guests have access to Health Spa Napa Valley down the street, with a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Merryvale Vineyards, Charles Krug Winery and Markham Vineyards are all within about 5 minutes, and Calistoga is about 15 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, a short drive up the valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 27 miles, 50 minutes. The closest airport to Wydown Hotel and the easiest arrival: a short drive over the hills from Santa Rosa, with no Bay Area traffic. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 77 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes, and 2 hours or more at busy times. The most flights, with the longest drive, across the Bay Area and up through Napa Valley.

Oakland (OAK): about 69 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO, and a slightly shorter drive.

Sacramento (SMF): about 82 miles, about 1 hour 45 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 20 minutes away. Estate Zinfandel from organic hillside vineyards in the Mayacamas, with a walk through the vines, the caves and a redwood grove. The experience is $50, Monday to Saturday by appointment.

About 20 minutes away. Burgers, fish tacos and salads at St. Helena's classic roadside stand, with picnic tables on the lawn. Quick and casual, which leaves more time for wine. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

1:00 · Corison Winery

About 5 minutes away. Cathy Corison's graceful, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon, including the Kronos Vineyard bottling, poured at her barn winery on Highway 29. The Discovery Tasting is $75. By appointment.

2:20 · Ehlers Estate

About 10 minutes away. Organically farmed estate Cabernet, poured in and around an 1886 stone barn north of town. The Estate Tasting is $125. Reserve at least a day ahead.
