St. Helena · Napa Valley
An organic estate around an 1886 stone winery, owned by a foundation for heart research, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
Bernard Ehlers, a German immigrant, bought the land north of St. Helena in 1885 and completed his stone winery in 1886. He and his wife Anna planted the olive grove that still shades the estate more than a century later.
Jean and Sylviane Leducq bought the estate in 1987 and released the first Ehlers Estate wine from the 2000 vintage. Today it is owned by the Leducq Foundation, and proceeds support cardiovascular research.
The 42-acre estate is certified organic and planted to Bordeaux varieties, led by the 1886 Cabernet Sauvignon. Tastings are small and private, for up to six guests, with a walk of the grounds and a seat in the gardens.
$95 for Start Your Day, an early tasting with pastries, about an hour. $125 for the Estate Tasting of five wines with a short tour of the grounds, about 90 minutes. $150 for the Belvedere and $225 for At the Table, a four-course lunch pairing at Violetto in Alila Napa Valley.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Next door. Founded in 1886 by Josephine Tychson, one of Napa Valley's first recorded women winemakers, and one of the wineries in the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Seated tastings are about an hour, from $50. By reservation.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch on Main Street in St. Helena, a farm-to-table restaurant open daily. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
On the same property. Long Meadow Ranch's own tasting room, next to Farmstead. The wine tasting is 45 to 60 minutes ($60); reservations encouraged. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.
Adds about 90 minutes. A historic working winery on Main Street in St. Helena. The Winery Exclusives tasting ($50) takes walk-ins as space allows; the tasting room is open until 5:30 p.m.
About $235 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when Long Meadow Ranch is closed, we suggest another winery nearby.
