About the Property

Timber Cove Resort is a 46-room oceanfront lodge on the clifftops of the Sonoma Coast, north of Jenner. It was built in 1963 by architect and original owner Richard Clements Jr., inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's organic style, and eight of its rooms are premium suites. Beniamino Bufano's Peace monument, commissioned in 1962, stands on the bluff.

Coast Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Great Room has a bar and lounge. Dogs are welcome for a fee, up to two per room. Guests must be 21 or older to check in.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Korbel Champagne Cellars, Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery and Black Kite Cellars are all within about 75 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 42 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes. The closest airport to Timber Cove, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 104 miles, 2 hours 25 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 104 miles, 2 hours 30 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 136 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 80 minutes away. Estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with Spanish-style food pairings, from Marimar Torres of the Spanish wine family. The seated Estate Tasting is $35. Walk-ins welcome; reservations suggested.

12:40 · Lunch at Willow Wood Market Cafe

About 10 minutes away. A café, soda fountain and general store at the center of Graton since 1995, serving down-home comfort food. Lunch from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 5 minutes away. Coastal Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay, poured on Graton Road in Sebastopol. The Coastal Reserve Tasting is $35, waived with a two-bottle purchase. Walk-ins welcome.

2:50 · Iron Horse Vineyards

About 10 minutes away. Estate sparkling wine from one of Sonoma County's coolest corners, poured outdoors with a view. The Tasting with a View is $35. By appointment; book about two weeks ahead for weekends.

Adds about an hour. Single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley, poured at Jasper House in Freestone. The seated Jasper House Experience of six wines is $40 and takes about 90 minutes. By appointment, prepaid.
