About the Winery

Gary Farrell became winemaker at Davis Bynum on Westside Road in 1978, and in 1982 he made the first wines under his own name: 50 cases of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir from the Rochioli and Allen vineyards. His own winery was completed in 2000, and he sold the brand and winery to Allied Domecq in 2004. Vincraft Group, a Sonoma company, later bought it from Ascentia Wine Estates.

The winery makes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, much of it from single vineyards it has worked with for decades across the Russian River Valley. Winemaker Brent McKoy has been here since 2005, when Gary Farrell hired him as cellar foreman.

The winery sits on a hilltop on 23 acres along the Russian River, and tastings are served outdoors, weather permitting. The Discovery Tasting is a curated flight of single-vineyard wines, and picnic tables on The Overlook can be reserved for up to 4 guests.

Tasting Fees

$55 for the Discovery Tasting of single-vineyard wines, about 90 minutes, outdoors. $55 per table for A Picnic with a View, 2 hours for up to 4 guests. $10 per person plus the wine for Signature Sips bottle service, about 60 minutes.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
