About the Property

The Sea Ranch Lodge is a 17-room oceanfront lodge on 53 acres within The Sea Ranch, about 100 miles north of San Francisco. Built in 1968, it is one of the oldest buildings in the planned community, and it was reimagined in 2023. The Michelin Guide awards it one Michelin Key.

Rooms look out to the ocean or the meadow, bluff trails run past the lodge, and the nearest beach is a five-minute walk. An on-site farm supplies the kitchen for The Dining Room, The Bar + Lounge and The Cafe, and reservations are required. Guests must be 21 or older, select rooms welcome dogs for a fee, and the lodge closes for renovations January 4 to 15, 2027.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Korbel Champagne Cellars, Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery and Black Kite Cellars are all within about 100 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 57 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes. The closest airport to The Sea Ranch Lodge, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 119 miles, 2 hours 45 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 119 miles, 2 hours 50 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 150 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

11:30 · Korbel Champagne Cellars

About 90 minutes away. California champagne made by méthode champenoise on the Russian River near Guerneville since 1882. The one-hour museum and cellar tour is free, and a bar flight is $15. No reservations needed.

1:05 · Lunch at Willow Wood Market Cafe

About 25 minutes away. A café, soda fountain and general store at the center of Graton since 1995, serving down-home comfort food. Lunch from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 5 minutes away. Dry-farmed estate Pinot Noir from Hallberg Ranch in the Green Valley. The Estate Tasting of five single-vineyard wines is $40. Reservations suggested, with walk-ins as space allows.

About 15 minutes away. Single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and old-vine Zinfandel, poured at private patio tables in Forestville. The Vineyard Exploration of five wines is $60. By appointment, with walk-ins when space allows.

Optional: Black Kite Cellars

Adds about an hour. Single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley, poured at Jasper House in Freestone. The seated Jasper House Experience of six wines is $40 and takes about 90 minutes. By appointment, prepaid.
