MacArthur Place is a 69-room garden estate hotel a short walk from Sonoma Plaza. It began more than a century ago as a family estate, vineyard and working ranch, and the original Burris House, built in the 1860s, still holds guest rooms. It is a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel.
The grounds have gardens, flagstone paths and fire pits, and The Spa at MacArthur has a relaxation garden with a whirlpool and steam room. Layla serves Mediterranean food, alongside The Bar at MacArthur and The Porch coffee shop and market, and bikes are available. Dogs are welcome in ground-floor rooms for a fee.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Bedrock Wine Co., Three Sticks Wines and Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery are all within about 10 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 30 miles, 1 hour. The closest airport to MacArthur Place, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 59 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 58 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 72 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.
Flying private? We also meet guests at the FBOs at STS and Napa County Airport (APC). See our Sonoma County Airport car service page for more on flying into STS.
