About the Winery

Morgan Twain-Peterson founded Bedrock Wine Co. in 2007, working out of a converted chicken coop on the outskirts of Sonoma. He grew up around wine as the son of Joel Peterson, founder of Ravenswood, and made his first wine, Vino Bambino, before he was five. Chris Cottrell, a friend from a New York wine shop, later joined as his partner, and the two also make single-vineyard sparkling wine under the Under the Wire label. Morgan became a Master of Wine in 2017.

Bedrock is devoted to preserving California's old vineyards, many planted in the late 1800s and early 1900s as field blends of Zinfandel, Carignan, Mataro, Petite Sirah and other varieties. Its home vineyard, the 152-acre Bedrock Vineyard in the heart of Sonoma Valley, was founded in 1854 by Generals William Tecumseh Sherman and Joseph Hooker and replanted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst. Morgan's family bought it in 2005, and it is certified organic and Regenerative Organic. Bedrock wines have appeared four times on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list, and Antonio Galloni named Bedrock Winery of the Year in 2020.

Tastings are held in the General Joseph Hooker House, a small pre-cut saltbox house from the 1850s in a courtyard off the east side of the Sonoma Plaza. When it came up for lease in 2017, Bedrock took it on to reunite Hooker's home with wine from his old vineyard, and it still holds a small exhibit of mid-19th-century photographs. The Bedrock Heritage Tasting ranges across the old-vine wines with a focus on Sonoma Valley history, and Under the Wire sparkling wines are poured Friday to Sunday.

Tasting Fees

$45 for the Bedrock Heritage Tasting, waived with a three-bottle purchase per taster. $65 for the Under The Wire Tasting of three single-vineyard sparkling wines, Friday to Sunday only, waived with a three-bottle purchase.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
