The Inn at Occidental is a historic inn dating from 1876 in the village of Occidental, owned by Matt and Vicky Meblin since 2024. It has 17 units: eight themed rooms in the main house, eight in the courtyard building, and a two-bedroom cottage with a kitchen and hot tub. Sonoma County Tourism named it the 2026 Lodging Property of the Year.
A freshly prepared breakfast is included each morning, and the OX Wine Bar pours only Sonoma County wines and hosts winemaker dinners. Many rooms have fireplaces, jetted spa tubs and private decks or porches, and there is a courtyard garden with work by local artists. Select rooms are dog-friendly.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Black Kite Cellars, Marimar Estate and Freeman Vineyard & Winery are all within about 20 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 16 miles, 45 minutes. The closest airport to the Inn at Occidental, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 79 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 79 miles, 1 hour 55 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 111 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.
Flying private? We also meet guests at the FBOs at STS and Napa County Airport (APC). See our Sonoma County Airport car service page for more on flying into STS.
