About the Property

Dawn Ranch is a riverfront resort on 22 acres along the Russian River in Guerneville, with direct access to a river beach. It opened in 1905 as Murphy's Guest Ranch and was renovated and relaunched as Dawn Ranch in 2023, named for a pair of rare dawn redwoods on the property. Its 86 accommodations include cabins, chalets, cottages, bungalows and seasonal glamping tents.

The spa has three treatment rooms, a steam room, a sauna and redwood hot tubs, and there is a pool. The Lodge is the resort's restaurant and bar, and it holds a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Dogs are welcome in select cabins for a fee, and children of all ages are welcome.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Korbel Champagne Cellars, Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery and Hartford Family Winery are all within about 25 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 15 miles, 35 minutes. The closest airport to Dawn Ranch, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 82 miles, 1 hour 55 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 82 miles, 2 hours, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 112 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 15 minutes away. A café, soda fountain and general store at the center of Graton since 1995, serving down-home comfort food. Lunch from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 20 minutes away. Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay and Jackson Estate wines, with culinary gardens in Santa Rosa. The Taste of K-J is $20 and the guided Estate Wine Tasting $35. Reservations strongly recommended.

About 20 minutes away. Cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Dutton Ranch, on the Gravenstein Highway in Sebastopol. The Farmer's Flight is $35, waived with a 2-bottle purchase. Walk-ins welcome; reservations accepted.
