Locanda Estate was the vision of Dr. Joe, who spent time in Italy while earning his medical degree and has made wine since he was twelve. He wanted a place to live the Mediterranean way of life, and the estate's buildings are inspired by old-world Mediterranean architecture. Winemaker Brian Graham studied at the University of Bordeaux, worked at small châteaux including Château Roquefort and at a micro-winery in Burgundy, and trained with WSET in London.
The estate is a westerly-facing hillside vineyard tucked into a three-sided hollow in the Sonoma Valley, with dark, well-drained alluvial soils. It grows Petite Sirah of the Durif clone and Primitivo, both from vine stock sourced from one of the first vineyards planted in Sonoma, alongside olive groves, free-range sheep and pasture-raised chickens. New Upper Block wines debuted in 2024.
There is no public tasting room. The estate's Hospitality House, rebuilt after the 2017 fires and reopened in 2020, is used for wine club days, charity events, cooking classes and winemaker dinners. The wines are sold through the website and the wine club. The day below stays in the Sonoma Valley, with three estates that host.
Locanda Wines does not offer public tastings.
The day below runs about $170 per person in tasting fees at Annadel Estate, Deerfield Ranch and Lasseter Family Winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
