About the Winery

Filomena is a small family label founded in 2014 by winemaker Luke Nio, who grew up in Petaluma and graduated from UC Davis in viticulture and enology in 2011. He worked at Kaz Winery in Kenwood, spent seven years as cellar master at Bedrock Wine Co., two years as assistant winemaker at Green & Red Vineyard, and is now head winemaker at Kivelstadt Cellars. His wife Kat Nio handles sales, marketing, logistics and photography. The name honors his grandmother and great-grandmother, and the label uses a family photo dated 1926.

Luke sources from sustainably farmed vineyards, many organic, often planted to obscure varieties, and each wine comes from a different appellation. Sonoma sources include Griffin's Lair Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, planted in 1999 just off Lakeville Highway, and Ricci Vineyard off Ramal Road in the Sonoma side of Carneros, which grows St. Laurent. Recent wines include a Cabernet Pfeffer Rosé from San Benito County, a Ricci Vineyard St. Laurent and a 2014 Bedrock Vineyard Petite Sirah, the first wine Filomena ever made.

There is no tasting room, and Filomena does not receive visitors. Wines are released online on a first-come, first-served basis, with pickup or local delivery for Napa and Sonoma residents. The day below stays in Carneros and the town of Sonoma and includes the two wineries where Luke has spent much of his career, Kivelstadt and Bedrock.

Tasting Fees

Filomena Wine Co. does not offer tastings.

On the day below, tastings are $62 at Gloria Ferrer, $30 to $40 at Kivelstadt Cellars and $45 at Bedrock, paid directly to each winery.
