About the Winery

José Ferrer, of the Catalan family behind the Cava house Freixenet, came to Sonoma from Barcelona with his wife, Gloria, in the early 1980s to make traditional-method sparkling wine in California. They planted their first 50 acres in Carneros in 1984 and opened the winery in 1986, the first sparkling wine house in the region. José broke with the custom of the day and named it for Gloria.

The estate now has more than 300 planted acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, certified organic and certified sustainable. Beginning in 1988 the winery studied dozens of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones with UC Davis, and its Pinot Noir-driven sparkling wines include the Blanc de Blancs, Brut Rosé and the vintage Royal Cuvée, alongside still Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.

The red-tiled winery recalls the Ferrer family's farmhouse in Catalonia, and seated tastings on the Vista Terrace look out over the vineyards. Flights run from the four-wine Taste of Carneros to the Reserve Expedition of vintage and late-disgorged library wines, with a small-plates menu. On weekends from spring to fall, the Al Fresco pavilion takes walk-ins for wine by the glass or bottle.

Tasting Fees

$62 for the Taste of Carneros, a seated flight of four estate wines, about 60 minutes. $125 for the Reserve Expedition of vintage and library wines and $130 for the Culinary Journey of five small bites with wine, each about 90 minutes. $75 for the Seasonal Grilled Cheese Pairing and $90 for weekend Brunch.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
