Jordan Kivelstadt founded Kivelstadt Cellars in 2007, when he made 125 cases of Syrah from his family's estate in Bennett Valley. The winery still owns that hillside vineyard, though it buys most of its grapes, about 89 percent, from organic and historic vineyards across Northern California. Winemaker Luke Nio, a Sonoma County local and 2011 UC Davis graduate, makes the wines.
The approach is organic farming and minimal intervention: native fermentations, few or no additions and little new oak. Kivelstadt likes unusual varieties and techniques, from orange wine and Charbono to its experimental KC Labs bottlings, and keeps its prices approachable on purpose.
The tasting lounge is a garden on Broadway at the south end of Sonoma, under 100-year-old sycamores, with tastings for small and large groups and shared bites from Bloom Carneros, the restaurant on the same property. Children and dogs are welcome, which makes it one of the easiest stops in Carneros for a family. In spring through fall, the estate vineyard in Bennett Valley opens for a seated tasting among the vines.
Lounge tastings run $30 to $40, for large and small groups, with shared bites from Bloom available. $75 plus a 20 percent service charge for the Estate Vineyard Tasting in Bennett Valley, spring through fall.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
