Far Mountain is the label of Mai Errazuriz and Rodrigo Soto, who have spent three decades working for leading wineries in North and South America. It began with a dinner in Napa with longtime friends and a long talk about the direction of California wine. The name describes the vineyards they work with: remote mountain sites, mostly in the Moon Mountain District and the hills above the Sonoma Valley.
The Chardonnays, Myrna and Bresa, come from Bald Mountain Vineyard, planted in 1972 and dry farmed on fractured basalt at over 1,800 feet. The Cabernets come from Alta Vista, a terraced, dry-farmed site above the town of Sonoma with vines more than 50 years old; Montecillo, first planted in 1860 at 1,400 to 1,800 feet; and Monte Rosso, planted in the 1880s in red volcanic soils. The Nunnery, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend, comes from a Nunns Canyon vineyard planted and farmed organically by Phil Coturri.
Far Mountain sells its wine through its mailing list; you join the list to purchase. It publishes no address and has no tasting room, so it does not receive visitors. The day below stays in the Sonoma Valley, with a cave tasting on Moon Mountain itself and a tasting of the Coturri family's Moon Mountain wines.
Far Mountain does not offer tastings. On the day below, expect about $245 to $255 per person: $125 at Repris, $75 at Winery Sixteen 600 and $45 to $55 at Bartholomew Estate.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
