Emmanuel Goldstein planted the volcanic slopes below Moon Mountain in 1880, on a ranch whose land later became two famous vineyards, Monte Rosso and Moon Mountain Vineyard. Investors bought the Moon Mountain side in 1980, renamed it Carmenet and built a round winery and natural rock caves. Jim Momtazee bought Moon Mountain Vineyard in 2011 and started Repris to make its estate wines.
The vineyard has about 70 acres of vines in 49 blocks, mostly Bordeaux and Rhône varieties, at 1,000 to 1,800 feet on at least six volcanic soils. After the 1996 Cavedale Fire burned about 70 percent of it, the vineyard was replanted and farmed organically, and it was certified organic in 2002. The Repris team led the effort to create the Moon Mountain District AVA, recognized in 2013, and Erich Bradley makes the wines.
Every visit is a private experience: an open-air tour of the vineyard blocks, a walk through 18,000 square feet of caves dug into the mountain from 1981, and a seated tasting of estate wines. Most Repris wines are sold only to members and to guests on the day of their visit.
$125 per person for the Moon Mountain Vineyard experience, about 90 minutes: a vineyard tour, the caves and a seated tasting of estate wines.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
