After 20 years marketing Napa Valley and its wines, Karen Cakebread launched Ziata in 2008 and named it for her mother, Mary Annunziata. She started with a Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot Noir, chosen for how well they go with food, and added a Cabernet Franc in 2009. Her goals, in her words: beautifully structured wines that reflect their vineyards, and being involved in every aspect of making them.
The fruit comes from small parcels in the sub-appellations of Napa and Sonoma: Meteor Vineyard in Coombsville for Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville Station in Oakville for Cabernet Franc, Bootlegger's Hill in the Green Valley of the Russian River for Pinot Noir, and KC Ranch in Calistoga. The Mia Madre red blend is a tribute to Karen's mother. Ziata is part of the Trinchero Family Estates portfolio.
Ziata sells through its website and mailing list, and Karen takes other inquiries by email. The label publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. Since two of its best-known wines come from Oakville and Coombsville, the day below pairs an Oakville estate with an afternoon among Coombsville's oldest vines.
Ziata Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Ziata Wines does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, including an Oakville Cabernet vineyard and Coombsville's oldest vines. Harvest Inn and Alila Napa Valley are both in St. Helena, a few minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
A few minutes away. A family winery's private studio on Main Street in St. Helena, where each wine is poured with its own playlist, imagery and seasonal bites. The Private Portfolio Tasting is $95 to $125, 60 minutes, for one small group at a time. By reservation only.
About 15 minutes away. A family's ten-acre Oakville Cabernet vineyard beside its own restaurant, Brix, where library Cabernets are poured in the gardens and vines. The Kelleher Cabernet Vertical is $95, 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment; closed Monday and Tuesday.
About 12 minutes away. Lunch high on Rutherford Hill with the whole valley below. The Bar serves all day from 11:30 a.m., and The Restaurant on the terrace offers a two- or three-course prix fixe lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. A tour of Joe Heitz's original Home Ranch, then a seated tasting of wines from what the winery calls the oldest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines left in Napa Valley, planted in Coombsville in 1967. $150 per person plus tax, 90 to 120 minutes. By reservation, daily 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Back in St. Helena by about 4:25 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
About $340 to $370 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Kelleher is closed Monday and Tuesday, so plan this day for Wednesday to Sunday. NEOTEMPO confirms its time when we book. The day runs about six and a half hours; extra time is billed by the hour.
