Yan Cellars was founded by Eugene Bayani, who was born in Japan and grew up in Manila, and who sketched the business plan on a napkin while waiting for his order at Hog Island Oyster in Napa's Oxbow Public Market. The inaugural vintage was 2017. The winemaker is Patrick Saboe, Director of Winemaking at the Wine Foundry in Napa, whose name appears on the back of every bottle, and the brushstroke on the label is by Tokyo-based artist Youna Matsushita.
Yan focuses on small-lot, single-vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from sought-after vineyards on Spring Mountain and in Rutherford, harvested and made by hand. It has also made an unusual 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Blush from Morgaen Lee Vineyard in Yountville, with 1.5% Beckstoffer Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon blended in.
The wines are sold online. The Napa Wine Project lists Yan as private, with no appointments or tours, and the website lists no tasting room, so Yan does not receive visitors. The day below begins on Mount Veeder and returns to the Oak Knoll District north of Napa.
Yan does not offer tastings. On the day below, expect about $170 per person: $70 at Hess Persson, $45 at Trefethen and $55 at Black Stallion.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
