About the Winery

Donald Hess, a Swiss entrepreneur and art collector, founded his winery on Mount Veeder in 1978 and opened it to the public in 1989 together with his contemporary art collection. Since 2021 it has been known as Hess Persson Estates, led by Sabrina and Timothy Persson.

The winery is set in a stone building from 1903, high in the Mayacamas Mountains above the town of Napa, with a garden courtyard and views across the vines. The art museum is closed through the end of 2026.

The wines are Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon under the Hess Collection, Lion Tamer and Panthera labels, plus a Small Block Series sold only at the winery. The drive up Redwood Road is part of the experience.

Tasting Fees

$40 for the Bar Tasting. $70 for the 90-minute Estate Tasting and $110 for the Reserve Estate Tasting. $250 for the ATV Vineyard Tour & Tasting.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
