The Work family planted this Calistoga vineyard in 1976 as a single-estate Sauvignon Blanc vineyard, and their estate wine won numerous awards. Friends Sam and Lamya Malhotra bought it from them in 2007 and replanted it to Cabernet Sauvignon, the start of Lamya's Cabernet Sauvignon. The brand still nods to its past with the original 1976 orange road sign.
Lamya Malhotra guides the winery today; her love of wine goes back to her grandfather's underground wine cellar in Iraq. Julieta de la Cuadra, from Mendoza, Argentina, became winemaker in 2023, following Kari Auringer, after training under Russell Bevan. Besides the estate Cabernet from the Calistoga AVA, each wine is named for a family member, from Jacklyn's Chardonnay and Presley's Rosé to Zina's Pinot Noir and Adrien's Blend.
Work Vineyard has no tasting room and lists no visits. Its website offers an online shop and the Work Vineyard Club, with four tiers shipping two to four times a year; club benefits include barrel tastings of pre-release wines and invitations to club events. For a day out, we take you to estates nearby that do host, high on Spring Mountain and around St. Helena.
Work Vineyard does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

We pick up at 9:40 for Barnett's 10 a.m. tasting high on Spring Mountain: Harvest Inn is about 15 minutes away and Meadowood about 20. The day runs about six and a quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. A small family estate near the top of Spring Mountain, nearly 2,000 feet above the valley floor, with panoramic views over Napa Valley. The Tasting Experience is $125, a guided flight of five current releases; we allow about 90 minutes. Daily by appointment at 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m.
About 15 minutes away. A small family vineyard on Pratt Avenue at the north edge of St. Helena, where owners Jack and Dianna Varozza host each tasting themselves. $50 for five wines or $75 for seven, about 90 minutes. Tuesday to Sunday, by appointment.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Forum, the main restaurant at Meadowood at the foot of Howell Mountain, with seasonal dishes drawn from the Meadowood farm. Lunch is served on weekdays, with brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 8 minutes away. A family winery founded in 1979 on the Silverado Trail north of St. Helena, with a hand-hewn stone winery; during your appointment your group is the only one on the property. Chateau Boswell does not publish a tasting fee; we confirm it when we book and allow about an hour. By appointment only.
Back by about 3:55 p.m., about six and a quarter hours after pickup.
About $175 to $200 per person in tasting fees for Barnett and Varozza, plus Chateau Boswell's fee, which is confirmed when the appointment is made. Fees are paid directly to each winery.
Varozza hosts Tuesday to Sunday, so this day fits Tuesday to Sunday. Chateau Boswell does not publish a fee or visit length; we confirm both when we book.
