About the Property

Meadowood Napa Valley is a 250-acre estate in a wooded valley off the Silverado Trail, on the east side of St. Helena. It began in 1961 as a gathering place and private club, and today it has 36 rooms and suites spread through the trees, from cottage rooms to the one-bedroom Hill House.

The Michelin Guide awards Meadowood three Michelin Keys, its highest rating, and it is a member of Relais & Châteaux. There are three pools, five tennis courts, a hiking trail, the Meadowood Spa and the Wine Center, which runs classes and tastings. Forum serves breakfast through dinner. The Restaurant at Meadowood remains closed, and the resort points dinner guests to The Charter Oak in town.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Merryvale Vineyards, Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Markham Vineyards are all within about 10 minutes, and Calistoga is about 20 minutes north. We are based in Calistoga, a short drive up the valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 28 miles, 55 minutes. The closest airport to Meadowood and the easiest arrival: a short drive over the hills from Santa Rosa, with no Bay Area traffic. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 78 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes, and 2 hours or more at busy times. The most flights, with the longest drive, across the Bay Area and up through Napa Valley.

Oakland (OAK): about 70 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO, and a slightly shorter drive.

Sacramento (SMF): about 83 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 15 minutes away. Up the wooded slopes of Diamond Mountain to the historic caves where Schramsberg ages its traditional-method sparkling wine. The cave tour with a tasting runs about an hour, about $100. By appointment.

11:40 · Lunch at Sam's Social Club

About 10 minutes away. California cooking on the terrace at Indian Springs in Calistoga, on the site of Sam Brannan's 1860s resort. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

1:00 · Chateau Montelena

About 5 minutes away. The stone chateau and Jade Lake at the foot of Mount St. Helena, home of the Chardonnay that won the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Afternoon visits are reserved tastings, $75 to $125.

2:25 · Frank Family Vineyards

About 15 minutes away. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and sparkling wine at the historic stone winery on Larkmead Lane. The estate tasting is about $60. Reservations required.

3:50 · Back to Meadowood

About 15 minutes away. Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

Adds about an hour. Home of Insignia, first made in 1974, a few minutes from the resort. The Founder's Tasting is $120, prepaid.
