About the Winery

Vindicta Estate belongs to Al and Sonia Franklin, who set out to produce the best wine the land will support. Their Mystery 1914 Vineyard on Atlas Peak takes its name from a large stone block engraved with 1914 that the couple found on an early visit; no one knows what the date marks. The estate also farms the Lazarus Vineyard.

Mystery 1914 is a 12-acre property with about four acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc in the Atlas Peak AVA. Winemaker Julien Fayard, who worked at Bordeaux houses including Lafite Rothschild before starting his own Napa projects, makes the wines with director of winemaking Camille Gaio. Production is limited to about 500 cases a year.

Current releases are from the 2023 vintage: a Sauvignon Blanc, introduced at the Taste of Atlas Peak, and a Cabernet Sauvignon released in April 2026. The wines are sold on vindictaestate.com. Vindicta does not publish tours or tastings, so the day below takes you to estates on Atlas Peak and in Coombsville that do host.
