About the Winery

Owner and winemaker Fred Oliai first saw the 90-plus-acre Alta Vineyard, high atop Atlas Peak, in 2008 and saw its potential right away. Since 2009 the vineyard has been the sole supplier of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to Kongsgaard Wines, a good measure of the fruit's quality.

Alta's first wine was 220 cases of the 2009 Oso Malo Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate, released in fall 2011, and it sold out quickly. The family farms sustainably and intervenes as little as possible in the cellar. In 2017 it bought a 22-acre parcel on the Silverado Trail and planted the Riverside Vineyard, which supplies the Revival Cabernet Sauvignon.

The estate sits on Atlas Peak Road in the Atlas Peak AVA, in the mountains northeast of Napa. Alta has no public tasting room or published tasting schedule; visits are arranged by private request through the winery. We contact the family on your behalf and confirm what they can offer for your date.

Tasting Fees

Alta does not publish a tasting fee. Any private visit and its cost are confirmed by the winery when the request is accepted.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
